They were best known for their Sit-at-home protests which ground operations to a crawl. These issues are not political. They have their origin in the Berlin Conference of 1885 where Europeans unilaterally decided to lay their borders on top of indigenous African order. What is most surprising is the willingness of Africans themselves to simply "go along" with it. Even some wealthy Biafrans are afraid to speak out because they think they will risk their money. But they fear this because they like many people in Nigeria think that separation means war.
Let me be clear about something. Separation does not mean ENMITY. You and I may go have coffee together one day and have a great time, but at the end of this meeting we go to our separate homes. It does not mean that you and I hate each other, it simply means that we have respect for one another. If we force ourselves to live in the same house, you and I will inevitably... less

MASSOB originated before Jonathan and so did Biafra Zionist Movement. In fact I am not a Nnamdi Kanu supporter but if you actually listened to the Radio Biafra broadcasts you will even hear him curse Jonathan for his "uselessness". The fact is that Biafra supporters are simply agitating against the refusal to acknowledge the populations that want out of the Nigerian state and their right to choose their allegiance so that they may build a destiny for themselves. less
That's your perception, but i believe if all hands are put on deck, certainly we'll settle our differences..
BIAFRA agitators are not doing the right thing, and hardly they peace and progress among them selves even if the separation takes place.

USA and Canada are similar but in other key areas such as healthcare, education, and energy policy are very different. If we amalgamated the countries together we would putting all the proverbial eggs in a single basket of a single system. With two countries, the different peoples could make their own attempts at the same societal problems thus increase diversity and reduce systemic risk. I am not in favor of violence or looting, but the era of the empire is over man. The sooner pundits in Nigeria grasp this the sooner we can move into a new era of productivity for both Nigeria and Biafra. less

That very preclusion is what keeps many hands off the deck. I am of the position that Nigeria will be much better off without Biafra and Biafra will be better off independent.
Take the North America for example. If you have ever been to the USA and Canda you will know that the two nations are indistinguishable at face value. USA and Canada cooperate economically through trade and militarily through NATO. Canadian teams even compete in USA sports leagues. less

Anyone that that thinks that indigenous people can be forced into countryhood will be rudely awakened by the mediocrity and lack of enthusiasm in their nation. This is why most Nigerians would rather take the shortcut of corruption than work hard to build for themselves. Let us handle this like civilized people. The regions of unrest should conduct UN-supervised referendum to decide for themselves. That is the only long term solution to the problem. less
Those Who want to exit from Nigeria and create another sovereign state will not be able to get it right because that would have taken place long before now when Sir OJUKU was alive and he's ofcourse more armed than the present agitators.. @Azubuike

Negotiations mitigate all violence. If war was the goal of agitators, there would be civil war already. The lack of war further lends credence to the validity discussions on membership in Nigeria. The lack of war further lends credence to the validity discussions on membership in Nigeria. Imagine for that you desire to start your own business and resign from your current job, but your boss not only insists that you stay and not pursue entrepreneurship, he also hires company security guards to beat you and threaten your family. I can never say that a man's membership in my organization is non-negotiable. Every person is free to decide for himself how he spends his time and with whom he works. The same applies to communities of people on countryhood. The most successful countries are the ones where everyone is engaged to add value and see their land prosper, but when peoples are forced into empires against their will the seeds of underperformance are sewn. This is the problem that besets Nigeria and will continue to do so until restructuring is truly revisited and all voices heard at the... less
I agree that Nigeria needs to be restructured. A house with a bad foundation cannot stand. A house with a bad foundation cannot stand. In Nigeria's case there are significant groups of people that would rather exist as an independent nation than be amalgamated as the colonial masters desired. Nigeria was built to the benefit of Europeans and ironically it is African people that are enabling its subsistence against their own interests.
