Zelda Fan Rumors were "Frustrating" to Donkey Kong creators Eric Kozlowsky was hired by Retro Studios, it resulted in reports suggesting that Retro Studios was working on a new Zelda game with D2R Items.

The artist had previously worked for PlayStation's Uncharted series and for some reason, that led fans to draw a link. But, Kozlowsky and Retro Studios were actually working on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze at the time, and when the game was officially unveiled, many Zelda fans were unhappy with it because they were expecting something different. In a new interview with The Kiwi Talkz podcast, Kozlowsky disclosed the reasons for this rumor, which caused discontent for the team behind the game.

"Sometimes it's frustrating because it can create false expectations. I believe that was the case when we first announced Tropical Freeze. Everyone was in a state of 'they're developing an Zelda game or they're developing something like a Zelda game', but like nope. Then we released Tropical Freeze and it looks stunning and beautiful and then people say "oh, it's just another Donkey Kong.'

You then realize that everyone is slapping it on Neogaf or some other site and you're like 'oh it's because everybody thought we were playing some sort of Zelda game, and then it's like there's no way that's what you do.' So yeah it's a bit both and sometimes we get a laugh out of it, and at other times it can get irritating when it gets a longer," said Kozlowsky.

Kozlowsky's comments provide a fascinating perspective on how rumors circulate, and how that can negative impact the reception of a game. While Tropical Freeze might not have been the game many fans had hoped to see released but it did receive a lot of critical review upon its debut. It's a bit frustrating to invest a lot of effort into something but then the internet to react with disappointment based on incorrect information. It's difficult to predict the way fans react to the announcement of a team, but hopefully that situation helped some fans understand the importance of being aware of their expectations!
