President Sisi discusses with Zelenskyy by phone ways to advance bilateral relations between Egypt and Ukraine in various fields 2026-08-14

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received a phone call on Friday from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic stated that the President discussed with the Ukrainian President ways to advance bilateral relations between Egypt and Ukraine in various fields, especially in the trade and economic sectors, where the two presidents agreed in this context to continue working to increase trade exchange between Egypt and Ukraine, as well as exploring existing cooperation opportunities in a number of promising sectors, in a way that achieves the interests of the Egyptian and Ukrainian peoples. Ambassador Mohamed El Shenawy, the official spokesperson, indicated that the call also touched on developments in the Middle East region, where the President pointed to the continuous Egyptian efforts aimed at reducing regional escalation, stressing the importance of settling the current regional tension through peaceful means in order to preserve peace and stability in the region, calling for concerted regional and international efforts to stop the current escalation, taking into account its negative effects on security and stability and on international trade. For his part, the Ukrainian President appreciated the efforts made by Egypt in this regard, noting his agreement with the President’s vision on the need to reduce the current escalation and tension. The official spokesperson stated that the Ukrainian President reviewed the latest developments in the Russian-Ukrainian war, appreciating Egypt's keenness to end the war. In this context, the President reiterated Egypt’s position supporting a political settlement to this crisis, expressing Egypt’s readiness to provide support for efforts to resolve it politically as soon as possible.
